In 1993, UNESCO officially recognised the excellent services that UNESCO Center of Catalonia – UNESCOCAT had provided since its inception and included it in the ‘Foundations maintaining official relations with UNESCO’ category. This status has been renewed through the years, the last one in 2017.
UNESCOCAT has also good relations in other fields of the United Nations: since 2002, it has also been one of the NGO with consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). This status enables UNESCOCAT to have its own voice at all functional commissions within the organisation, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, the Commission on Sustainable Development, the Commission on Social Development and the Human Rights Council. Furthermore, UNESCOCAT has been associated to the United Nations Department of Public Information since 1984.
Likewise, the entity also has relations with Catalan institutions and entities and from other states, with who collaborates and share different projects.
